2010 International Year of Biodiversity

APRIL 29 | 2010 | 10:45 AM

Our regular news service has a component devoted to issues in "sustainable development". One of our core values at Vital Engineering is to transform the way we do business and how our projects impact the planet. Not only are we on the leading edge of building energy optimization and adoption of clean energy technologies, we are also bringing attention to issues outside of our regular scope of business to educate our readers about sustainable practices. As part of this ongoing effort, we are highlighting the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity.

Preserving the diversity of life has an obvious moral and social context. But learning about preserving the biosphere is also providing us information in how to advance our technologies so they support, rather than hinder the life that grows around us. We want to highlight two such initiatives under the banner of "biomimicry":

  • The Biomimicry Guild is a consultancy that applies the principles of biomimicry to improve productivity and expanding technical capacity. They also have an educational arm that offers an extensive list services.
  • Engineering for Sustainability is a technical repository for engineers wanting to work under the ASHRAE guidelines for building design.

We encourage you to explore our "Sustainable Development" links, where you can find many local initiatives.
